Procedure & Fees

To commission a custom oil portrait please contact the artist by phone or email. A meeting will then be scheduled to discuss ideas and goals for the portrait, namely setting, mood, pose, and wardrobe. This is sometimes possible the evening before the sitting, over the phone, or through email as circumstances allow. The artist usually requires only one sitting, which will take approximately one hour or more, depending on the complexity of the composition. At the sitting, she will take digital photographs and occasionally will sketch in pencil. Together with the client the artist will select an image that will serve as reference for the final portrait. She will then return to her studio to work up a compositional color sketch in oil, which she will send to the client for approval. If sketch is approved she will then proceed to do the finished portrait.

Artist will also do landscapes, still lifes, and murals by commission. Murals must be local.

OIL PORTRAIT FEES (prices subject to change)

*Head & Shoulders $300. *3/4 Figure $800.

*Full Figure $1,500.

The artist requires half of the fee up front and the balance is due upon completion of the portrait.

*Add 50% to above values for a second figure. Add 30% for each additional figure. All travel, lodging, framing and shipping expenses are not included in the fees and will be extra.

(Please feel free to compare prices and quality with "Stroke of Genius" portrait site.)

The size of the canvas is set between the artist and the client and is not determined strictly by price. Dimensions are an aesthetic decision based on the subject (the attire worn, the setting, the pose) and also the amount of wall space that the client can allow for the portrait.
