Beautiful custom oil portraits can be a treasure for generations. Commission a portrait in oils of yourself or a loved one and enjoy the satisfaction of knowing you have something that is original and unique; a one of a kind treasure.
Albert Einstein once said: "There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” This quote describes how I feel about painting portraits. To me a human being is God’s greatest miracle. To be able to capture that miracle of life, of soul, of individual personality on canvas is the ultimate challenge and thrill. It is my passion.
My inspiration is drawn from the art of great masters such as Rembrandt, Sir Henry Raeburn, William McGregor Paxton, William Adolphe Bouguereau, John Singer Seargent, Johanne Vermeer, Carl Heinrich Bloch and contemporary artists such as Pino, Morgan Weistling, Bart Lindstrom, and John Michael Carter.
My challenge as an artist is to live up to the standard of excellence they’ve established. Michelangelo said the greater danger is not that our hopes are too high and we fail to reach them, it is that they are too low and we do. Many people think that a portrait is good because it looks just like the reference photograph. If this were true a photograph would suffice. To me a portrait painted needs to be much more than a rendering. A photograph captures a split second of a human beings total existence. A portrait should convey much more. It should portray the whole person, not just how they look at that moment but who they are. To me there is something spiritual in every portrait.
Leonardo DaVinci once said: “Where the spirit does not work with the hand there is no art.”
I am grateful to God for blessing me with this gift and for a family who supports me in my desire to follow my passion, develop my gift and to use it to bring glory to Him in return.
I feel art should inspire and uplift. It should be a thing of beauty, a balm to the soul.
